H O T E L N O T T E
This was a two-part project. The first assignment was to create a lobby space that reflected the culture of Piazza Repubblica, the site of the existing space. I chose a nightlife setting, using clean lines, rationalist influences, and architectural details and artwork from the 1920s as my main design stimulus.
The second component was to create two floors of hotel rooms and suites that reflect the essence of Florence, but executed in the minimalist style. I started my design process by observing the city through a series of twenty-minute pen sketches. From there I was able to create an abstracted furniture system and a simplified layout that drew on Florentine design elements.
